SharpEmu.dev

Up until now, if you wanted to know what SharpEmu actually was, you had to dig through a GitHub repository: commit history, issue threads, a README doing its best to explain everything at once. That works fine if you’re already a contributor. It’s not a great first impression for anyone else.

This site is meant to fix that.

What’s on the site

Everything about the project now lives in one place instead of being scattered across GitHub links:

  • A real home page, so a first-time visitor understands what the project is in the time it takes to scroll once.
  • A dedicated download page, with a build for your platform, Windows, macOS, or Linux, one click away.
  • System requirements, laid out plainly instead of buried in a wiki page.
  • An FAQ, answering the questions that used to get asked over and over in Discord.
  • This blog, covered in more detail below.

What the blog is for

The blog is where we’ll post the things that don’t fit in a commit message: development updates, the reasoning behind decisions, technical write-ups on how a specific piece of the system got reverse-engineered, and milestones worth calling out.

It won’t be limited to SharpEmu itself, either. We’ll also use it to cover news and developments in PS5 emulation more broadly, not just our own progress. If something significant happens in the scene, expect to hear about it here.

There’s no fixed schedule. Posts will go up when there’s something worth saying, not on a calendar.

A Discord update

Since this is already a post about where the project is headed, it’s worth addressing something that just happened in the current Discord server: it’s shifting toward covering PS5 emulation more broadly rather than staying SharpEmu-specific.

Separately, the project’s lead developer has stepped back from actively managing that server. The reasoning is that Discord moderation was taking time away from actually writing code, and that an official project community should ultimately be run on infrastructure the project itself controls, not a third-party platform.

A new, official SharpEmu Discord is planned for the near future, and it’ll be announced soon once it’s ready. In the meantime, nothing changes for development itself.

Still early

SharpEmu is a young project, and the site will keep growing alongside it. Take a look around, and check back here for what comes next.
