Today is a huge milestone for the SharpEmu community and all PS5 emulation enthusiasts. It is with pleasure that we would like to announce an important update which will make you closer to full-fledged playability: Astro Bot is now running at previously unseen performance!
Due to some recent improvements in our shader compilation pipeline and core threads scheduler, one of Sony’s best platformers is making an important step forward in terms of both stability and visuals.

Technical Performance Breakdown
As shown in the footage, performance currently splits into two distinct performance targets:
- Performance in Game (30 FPS): Performance is consistent at an average of 30 frames per second during actual gameplay. Although there is some stutter due to shader compilation for dense particles and new levels, input handling and physics perform smoothly.
- Performance during Cinematics and Cutscenes (60 FPS): Performance increases significantly to 60 frames per second during cutscenes driven by the game engine itself.
What’s next?
Though hitting playable frame rates is huge progress, our current priority is:
- Removing any residual visual artifacts in water shaders.
- Making the background asset loading smooth so that there are no micro-stutters.
- Improving CPU threading to hit above 30 FPS inside the game.
