God of War: Sons of Sparta Runs at 60 FPS on SharpEmu

God of War: Sons of Sparta is the latest game we put through SharpEmu, and it’s one of the best results we’ve had so far. We recorded a full session of more than 20 minutes, from booting it in the launcher to walking around Sparta, and the game holds 60 FPS for almost the whole run.

Test setup

  • Game: God of War: Sons of Sparta
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070
  • CPU: i9 14th
  • OS: Windows

What we tested

We didn’t cut anything: the video is a single take, so you can see exactly how the game behaves on SharpEmu.

  • Boot and intro: the game starts from the SharpEmu launcher and plays the Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio intros without issues.
  • Menus: the title screen, the settings pages and save data creation for a new game all work as expected.
  • Gameplay: the first areas, with platforming, combat and dialogue, run smoothly.
  • Cyclops boss fight: a big boss with lots of effects and enemies on screen at the same time.
  • Sparta: the town hub, with its NPCs and interiors.

Performance

The overlay in the top right corner of the video shows live data straight from the emulator: frame rate, frame time, draw calls, memory usage, CPU and GPU load. The frame rate sits at 60 FPS for most of the session, with frame times around 15 to 17 ms. During the busiest moments of the Cyclops fight we saw a few short dips into the high 40s, which we’re looking into.
