Cult of the Lamb on SharpEmu: First Boot and Intro Test

Cult of the Lamb is one of the most requested games, so we tried it on the latest build. It boots and has some glitches when we move around. It’s not playable from start to finish yet.

Test setup

  • Game: Cult of the Lamb (PPSA06464, version 01.000.034)
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070
  • CPU: i9 14th
  • OS: Windows

What works

The game launches straight from the SharpEmu library and goes through the startup sequence without any manual tweaks. The “Summoning…” loading screen shows up correctly, and then the intro starts.

The opening ritual cutscene, where the Lamb is brought before the four Bishops of the Old Faith, renders really well. The lighting on the pentagram, the hooded cultists and the candles all look the way they should, and the scene runs at a steady ~30 FPS.

After the intro, the game moves to another area where the game got stuck on an empty cream-coloured screen right after the ritual, and the frame rate dropped to around 7 FPS.

What’s next

Cult of the Lamb is a great test case for us, because it mixes 2D art, lighting effects and a lot of on-screen elements at once. Everything we fix to get it running properly will help other games too.
